BMD showcases high-throughput biodiversity monitoring at the Nature FIRST Conference

BMD was present with an interactive booth at the Nature FIRST Conference, which took place on 25–26 June 2025 in Rhenen, the Netherlands. The event brought together conservationists, researchers, policymakers, and innovators for two days of workshops, discussions, and networking. The conference marked the formal conclusion of the Nature FIRST project, while also providing opportunities for new collaborations and insights for the future of biodiversity conservation.

The conference featured sessions on biodiversity monitoring, human-wildlife conflict solutions, including wildlife radars and forensic techniques, habitat mapping, and knowledge graphs for smarter conservation. BMD coordinator Niels Raes (Naturalis Biodiversity Center) discussed the process of translating research into practical tools with real-world conservation impact as part of the panel “From Tools to Action – Scaling Conservation Solutions for Global Impact”.
