Biodiversity Meets Data (BMD) project is offering another exciting opportunity to learn how to use new monitoring and AI analysis tools focused on the detection of species listed under the Habitats and Birds Directives. Join us at the upcoming Eurosite annual meeting, where the BMD team will be facilitating various interactive sessions within the Conservation & Monitoring theme. 

Following on from the annual meeting, from 5-6 November, the 1.5-day high-throughput monitoring workshop will take place, and participants will gain practical training on biodiversity monitoring and analyses, including the following topics:

• Camera traps with Artificial Intelligence (AI) species identification
• Acoustic Recorders with Artificial Intelligence (AI) species identification
• Publishing your biodiversity data to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)

There are 30 places available for participants. We expect to receive more applications than the workshop can accommodate. You can express your interest in joining the workshop via this online form. Expressions of interest are welcome until 1 September 2026 (00:00 CET), and the BMD team will then select 30 participants to join the workshop. You will be notified shortly after the application deadline.

While the workshop itself is free to attend, travel and accommodation costs won’t be reimbursed, in principle.  

What will the workshop involve?

Refreshments and lunch during the workshop will be provided by BMD.

• Conservation practitioners;
• Researchers monitoring biodiversity of Europe's protected areas;
• Representatives of authorities and organisations responsible for biodiversity monitoring and reporting;

The venue details are yet to be confirmed. 

The BMD workshop is free to attend and is intended for site managers or organisations that are responsible for the monitoring of biodiversity in Natura 2000 sites and are interested in using high-throughput state-of-the-art methodologies. Organisations that are already working with camera traps and audio moths are encouraged to bring their own dataset to be analysed in the ARISE DSI portal.

Certificates of participation can be provided to workshop attendees upon request.
