BMD holds first hackathon on FAIR research with RO-Crate

From 14–16 July, BMD hosted its first hackathon on Improving FAIRability of research with RO-Crate at the Senckenberg Nature Research’s Data and Modelling Center. Experts from LifeWatch ERIC, Naturalis Biodiversity Center, the European Environment Agency, the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, Meise Botanic Garden and the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics came together to build first prototypes for BMD’s Species Distribution Modelling infrastructure. The work aims to strengthen the implementation of EU nature directives and support ecosystem restoration and protection across Europe.

Project topics ranged from RO-Crates for eLTER measurement protocols to new tools for accessing GBIF data, deploying bat SDMs, and exploring triple store queries for BMD’s RO-Crates. The code is openly available here.
