Niels Raes and a partner from Pensoft Publishers at the BMD stand
BMD participated in the LifeWatch ERIC Biodiversity & Ecosystem eScience (BEeS) Conference, held in Heraklion, Greece, where the project hosted a stand featuring promotional materials and information on its activities. Niels Raes, BMD project coordinator, was at the stand to welcome visitors and introduce the project. Participation in this event was particularly significant, as LifeWatch ERIC, a partner institution in the BMD project, will play a central role by developing the BMD Single Access Point (SAP) and leading training activities.
Organised by the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, the conference took place from 30 June to 3 July and brought together 193 participants from across Europe. The central theme was the Triple Planetary Crisis, which includes climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, and was addressed through eScience and the collaborative strength of European Research Infrastructures (RIs).
During the event, participants took part in 59 presentations, 36 posters and 12 training sessions, which highlighted advances in Virtual Research Environments (VREs), Virtual Laboratories (vLabs) and other innovative tools for biodiversity monitoring, habitat mapping and ecological research.
The BEeS Conference provided a platform for knowledge exchange, exploring future collaborations and demonstrating how eScience can support sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.
