BMD was showcased at the 8th European Congress of Conservation Biology

From 6 to 10 July, BMD was present at the 8th European Congress of Conservation Biology (ECCB) in Leiden, Netherlands. The Congress was organised by the Europe Region of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) and Leiden University (FWN/CML) and invited researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to share knowledge and exchange ideas on biodiversity conservation.

During the event, our project coordinator, Niels Raes from Naturalis Biodiversity Center, participated in a session titled “Automated detection for conservation (Tools)”.  In his presentation, titled “High-throughput biodiversity monitoring with AI species identification in support of the EU Nature Directives”, he spoke on BMD’s current accomplishments and expected outcomes.

BMD materials, including the project’s recently published collaborative policy brief, were distributed at the Pensoft Publishers booth.

The Congress provided an important opportunity to discuss the challenges we all face in our daily lives, including how to communicate the importance of biodiversity conservation more effectively and how to keep conversations going even in difficult political or social circumstances.
