BMD will participate and co-host a booth in BioMonWeek 2026

From 4 May to 8 May, BMD will participate in the Biodiversity Monitoring Week (BioMonWeek) in Montpellier, France and host a booth with MAMBO and OneSTOP, showcasing tools for biodiversity monitoring.

The Conference is organised by Biodiversa+, Alliance for Nature, BioAgora, GBIF, and MARCO-BOLO, and is a brand new event that brings monitoring experts together to discuss current trends and topics in biodiversity monitoring and determine the course of action for reversing the global biodiversity crisis. Some of the themes for this year include marine monitoring, data management for monitoring, and public policy and funding for monitoring. The programme consists of various keynotes, discussion panels, workshops, tutorials, and more, all led by monitoring experts and project leaders in the field. On 5 May from 11:30, BMD’s coordinator, Niels Raes, will host a session titled  “Biodiversity monitoring in terrestrial protected areas, including Natura2000”.

BMD partners will also participate in the following sessions:

In addition to the sessions, our booth, co-hosted with the EU-funded projects MAMBO and OneSTOP, will showcase different tools used for monitoring species in their natural habitats, such as CamAlien, camera traps, audio devices, AMI insect traps, eDNA sampling, and Air-DNA collectors. The purpose of our booth is to emphasise the role of AI and automation in species identification, using image, sound, and molecular signals, while ensuring transparency, data quality and FAIRness.
