LifeWatch ERIC to ensure a long-lasting impact for BMD’s results

To address biodiversity challenges across Europe and support the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, BMD will develop a Single Access Point, a central platform for monitoring biodiversity and изsupporting evidence-based conservation across the continent. The platform will incorporate elements of the Biodiversity Knowledge Hub (BKH), developed under the BiCIKL project, and the LifeWatch ERIC portal. These elements will form the foundation for the development of the Single Access Point.

The platform will give policymakers and Natura 2000 managers easy access to a) high-throughput biodiversity monitoring tools - including camera traps, audio devices and e-DNA sampling in combination with AI species identification, b) historical baseline biodiversity data, c) a comprehensive data catalogue with spatio-temporal environmental information, d) biodiversity analysis tools for terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems, and e) a web-GIS data viewer to explore aggregated data and results.

Through its ongoing collaboration with BMD, LifeWatch ERIC will help ensure a lasting impact for the project’s results. The organisation is leading the design, development and operation of the Single Access Point, and will also host and maintain the BMD data catalogue during and after the project to ensure long-term continuity. Additionally, training and capacity-building materials produced within the project, including webinars and tutorials, will be made available through LifeWatch ERIC’s training platform. This collaboration will help ensure that the tools and knowledge developed in BMD remain accessible and continue to support biodiversity monitoring and conservation across Europe.

To ensure that BMD’s Single Access Point and the biodiversity analysis tools meet real-world needs, they will be fully co-designed with stakeholders. If you want to get involved and support the development of our Single Access Point through in-person and online co-design activities, follow the project’s newsletter and social media channels, or join the BMD stakeholder network, to be notified when these activities are taking place.
